The value of business ethics in today's organisation can no longer be underplayed be it in public or private institutions. Global benchmarks on corporate governance agree that a sound ethical culture is the foundation for good corporate governance. Business ethics has become a key driver for organisational performance and business competitiveness. Clearly defined corporate ethics standards empower employees to make sound ethical decisions and resolve ethical dilemmas. Indeed, business ethics is the new frontier for competitive advantage, and businesses rebranded on sound ethical practices have become business partners of choice.
The Business Ethics Centre (BEC) was incorporated on February 22, 2010 and started operating in January 2012, with the period in between being dedicated towards market research. The organisation offers Research, Training and Advisory services in Corporate Ethics, Corporate Governance, and Human Capital Development. It seeks to propagate responsible business conduct and grow ethical workplaces. In 2012, the BEC successfully organised Zimbabwe's first ever Board and Executive Ethics Seminars in Harare and Bulawayo, and conducted its inaugural Managerial Ethics Training and EmployeeWorkplace Ethics Awareness Training in that same year. Business Ethics Centre takes pride in the success of these inaugural ethics training modules as it pushes for the adoption of formal ethics management processes in Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole. The training modules were conducted in partnership with both local and international partners who include Ethics Institute of South Africa, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Institute of Directors in Zimbabwe (IoDZ), and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
